REDUCED EMISSIONS

Our efforts to reduce our emissions and carbon footprint start at our olive groves. In addition to helping you Eat and Live Well, we’re committed to using the power of the olive tree to help offset some of the biggest environmental challenges that impact our planet.

You know olive oil is healthy, but did you know olive trees are good for the environment, too? Research suggests that olive trees can be a powerful tool in the fight against climate change, nurturing the environment in three important ways*:

According to new research, sustainably farmed olive groves can potentially absorb the carbon footprint of one person every year, helping to further filter and purify our air. In fact, olive groves around the world extract as much CO2 from the atmosphere as over nine million people produce.* As more research and new technologies become available, Pompeian will continue finding effective strategies to maximize our olive trees’ positive impact on the environment, all while maintaining our promise to deliver the highest-quality, best-tasting oils to your family’s table.

Looking forward, we’re taking bold steps towards building a healthier, more sustainable planet for all. Here are just a few of the ways we’re doing our part.

All Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oils Are
Carbon Trust Certified

Pompeian is the only brand that has been certified by the Carbon Trust for our extra virgin olive oil, the international standard for measuring, managing and reducing environmental impact. The certification confirms we’re meeting low emissions standards, helping us ensure meaningful reductions in our impact for each bottle of extra virgin olive oil we craft.

REDUCED WASTE

Taking care of our planet starts with reducing the amount of waste we produce. While we’re thinking big, we’re starting locally in our goal to become a zero-waste-to-landfill operation in the years ahead.

Creating compost

To help create compost and other gardening materials for use in our community, Pompeian is proud to partner with Veteran Compost, a local Baltimore company that employs veterans and their family members and specializes in turning food scraps into high-quality compost on a weekly basis. In 2020 alone, we generated more than 142 tons of compost and we look forward to building on this in the years to come.

Reducing our carbon footprint

Pompeian achieved Zero Waste Certification from SCS Global Services in 2025 for the manufacturing facility in Baltimore, with 89.9% waste diversion. We have a goal to achieve Zero Waste Certification with 99% waste diversion by 2026.
