We work directly with farmers to achieve full transparency and consistency in the quality of Pompeian products as we share an integrated sourcing model from tree to bottle.

WINNER OF THE 2023 SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS FROM BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE GROUP

As America’s authority in olive oil, we are proud to be the first olive oil brand in North America, and currently the only in the world, to have a Sustainably Grown Certified olive farm and olive oil. Our first farm to earn this distinctive certification is Sunrise Olive Ranch, based in Maricopa, California, which ensures our olive trees are planted, grown and harvested in a sustainable manner. Committed to worldwide sustainability practices, we plan to actively scale sustainability certifications to all Pompeian farms. Our multi-year plan, which begins with all California product, paves the way for 50% of our farms worldwide to be Sustainably Grown Certified by 2026, aiming for 100% by 2030.

The highly regarded Sustainably Grown certification program from SCS Global Services has been in place since the early 2000s and is utilized as the gold standard of sustainability for many other agricultural crops, but surprisingly the North American olive oil industry was not one of them. Our female-led sustainability team held us to a higher standard by setting out to become the first in North America to receive this rigorous, one-of-a-kind certification. The Sustainably Grown certification provides a comprehensive framework and common set of requirements for agricultural production involving environmental stewardship, social and ethical responsibility, economic sustainability and business integrity.

Our farmers are committed to reducing their water use, leveraging best-in-class technology to ensure they make the most out of every single drop. We actively embrace new research in this field, adopting innovative techniques, such as flyover and drone imagery, in order to minimize our water use and reduce evaporation. In Spain, a majority of our farms are irrigated in the traditional method, relying solely on rainwater.

We invest in research and new technology

We’re investing in resources to help our farmers grow their crops under carefully monitored conditions, which aid in protecting the groves, the olives and the environment. In Spain, our farmers work closely with DCOOP’s agricultural technicians, ensuring we’re making key optimizations to our practices in order to support smart, mindful farming that reduces our water and energy use. As a result, we’re able to harvest the olives at the peak of their natural goodness to preserve the vitality of the grove and the olives’ rich supply of antioxidants.
